The location and use if each vine will determine exactly how it is pruned; however, some pruning requirements of specific plants follow.
* Boston Ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata): requires little pruning only to control spreading.
* Clematis (clematis sp): timing of pruning is based on whether the specific cultivar blooms are on the previous year’s wood. Prune after bloom for early spring-flowering types and before new growth begins for later flowering types.
* Some vines grown in the landscape are rampant growing and can become invasive if not controlled. Among the following vines, it is important to select cultivars that are easier to control, but continue to monitor their growth, pruning to maintain them within bounds,
* Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica); not well suited to the landscape, this is a woodland weed in the Mid-Atlantic region
