they demand just as much of your time. “They are always making requests. Every time I make a round (every half an hour) they request something. They are worried about problems with other inmates, personal problems with their families, jail time, you name it,” he said.
He said as long as they hold less than 16 at a time things go pretty smoothly but “once you get more than that you tend to have problems. There are too many of them in a smjall space and they tend to get dh each others nerves.”
Another potential problem is the kitchen area. The jail has a regular cook who cooks lunch and dinner every weekday. During breakfast time and on weekends they have a female trustee who does the cooking. “She is very good and if something happened to her or when she leaves we’ll have to find someone else we can trust to do the cooking.”
The need for trust in that position is paramount because that person has access to all sorts of very sharp and potentially deadly kitchen utensils.
