James Reston Jr., of Hume and Chevy Chase, author of The Last Apocalypse - Europe at the Year 1000 A.D., will speak on April 28, Tuesday, at 8 p.m., at the Rappahannock Library, off U.S.* 211 in Washington, Va. This will be his second appearance here.
In 1995, he spoke about writing his previous book, Galileo: A Life. That valuable biography followed the Vatican’s apology for its condemnation of Galileo for his writing about a sun-centered universe, as opposed to Catholic dogma that the earth is the center.
The Last Apocalypse anticipates the second millennium that is nearly upon us by searching out situations all over Europe which convinced many that the end of the world was at hand, as they believed the Bible foretold.
