On March 18 I attended a
meeting co-hosted by the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors and Planning Commissioners concerning communications towers in our county. Norman Ray, from Sprint, gave an overview of his company’s plan to install approximately six 250 foot towers near ridge lines throughout Rappahannock County.
He brought a map to illustrate areas having strong, weak, or no coverage and promised every attempt would be made not to diminish our “view scapes.” He further stated these monoliths would require a power source, service roads, and that only digital systems such as “Sprint” would function from this equipment. But wait! Mr. Ray tells us his firm can rent space on these towers for “Cell One” to install their analog type equipment many of us use. To be fair, Mr. Ray’s priority is to secure a contract for Sprint which will make money. That’s his job.
