great weather would be injudicious, not to mention potentially actionable in the event of (gasp!) error, so we will simply add that there has been only one raining Fodderstack in the last 11 years.
Bus service begins from Washington to Flint Hill at approximately 9 a.m. Registration in Flint Hill at the Volunteer Fire Department Fairgrounds starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 9:30 in time for the race’s start at 10 a.m. Pre-registration (postmarked by April 17) is $15 and is $20 the day of the race.
An incompetently managed start for the race has become something of a tradition in Rappahannock County. We have had everything from a stalled starter’s vehicle to a misfiring starter’s gun, a malfunctioning bull-horn, and a lost time-keeper to our credit (we don’t count the deer who ran in front of us once; no one but the driver saw it).
Our crack team of starter strategists is even now devising this year’s debacle, although playing it straight might win out as our strategy for this year.
In any event, win or lose, a good time will be had by all, and we urge you to come out and run, walk, crawl or roll the race. Failing that, come out and enjoy the day by cheering the runners and attending the awards ceremony on the Courthouse steps, which should go off about noon.
