Art is a part of her life. But her family is very important to her, and that may have become move evident over the last few years.
About six years ago her son, Ryan, was diagnosed with cancer. He was on the Track team at Virginia Commonwealth University, but had to give up his scholarship and drop out of school.
“It definitely gives you something else to think about” said Welch. During this time, she continued to paint.
