Whether or not iron and manganese stains begin to appear on dishwashers and fixtures in Washington will be discovered soon, now that the failed sand filters have been disconnected from the town water system.
The county health department does not consider disconnecting the two large filters a health risk, and permitted bypassing the defective filters.
The town council voted to do so at the monthly meeting on March 17.
The council has invited the public to attend a field trip to see the town’s water system. The car tour will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 29, at the town hall.
Council member Steve Critzer is leading an investigation into why they failed.
Gradually over the past four months, a breakdown in the filter media caused it to compact and hampered the water flow through the filters causing water pressure to build, according to Critze*.
