it was obviously an expression drawn from the right side of the brain — the “artistic side.” ; This piece would be the work of an artist, brought to life by the hands of a craftsman, if it could become a reality. Even on paper it created a greater sense of gratification than did the beautiful cherry wood table. It was organic -1— from the earth — more raw and fundamentally satisfying.
It evoked thoughts of trees and rocks and mountains, just as the Rappahannock County countryside does.
When Lucking finished the table a few weeks later, the art had jumped from the paper to the floor.
His creation had been perfectly rendered in hickory and white oak. More than a table, it is a sculpture.
