She has also done a series of paintings for the Virginia Head Injury Foundation. In 1986, she presented a print to James Brady, who was shot in the head during a 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.
Welch contributed to a calendar of cows a few years ago that was sold at Waldenbooks, a regional chain of bookstores.
One of her paintings — a turkey — was used for the cover of Virginia Wildlife magazine. She also presented some sketches at the Virginia Designer Show that were put on display at Maymont Park in Richmond.
People from all walks of life are attracted to her paintings, and that includes celebrities. Country singer Randy Travis and actor Robert Duvall have purchased some of Welch’s prints.
She also puts her art on ceramic pottery, mostly mugs.
