On Saturday, April 24 the Twenty-first Annual Fodderstack 10-K Race will be run from Flint Hill to Washington.
While there are any number of participants who legitimately compete for the $300 cash prize offered to the runner who beats the course record of 31.26 for men or 36.46 for women, the emphasis is on having a good time.
The first, second and third place trophies crafted by local artisan Meryl Strange for males and females in each of 10 categories also acts as something of an incentive...and perhaps the Eva Smith Memorial trophies to the first finishing Rappahannock County resident (male and female) also adds some fleetness of foot.
Really though, the bottom line is getting out and enjoying the first blush of spring (and for the type-A’s among us, crushing the unworthy opposition like a proverbial bug).
We want to add that this year we are adding an 11th category by splitting the age 50-59 category into two classes 50-54 and 55-59. We find that a preponderance of our thus far 51 entrants fit into this group and we don’t want anyone to go away unhappy.
The race runs from the Vierling’s Flint Hill Packing Shed down Rt. 522 to a right turn onto Fodderstack Road
