The hickory is framed with white oak staves — like an oaken barrel — four of which were elongated to create the table legs.
The legs are carved to recreate the feel of tree limbs, and the leg ends shaped to enfold four matched, river-worn quartz feet. The top of one oak leg is carved to disclose the face of a man who may have sat at this table ten thousand years ago.
It represents the merging of a artistic mind with the skills of a master furniture builder.
To Lucking, also it represents the beginning of a more serious push into a business segment that he has before treated as an avocation. This table and other such organic “spec” pieces will be photographed and used to develop a postcard series.
The postcards will be distributed for sale at local outlets, and to designers in up-scale market areas, in the hope that they will incorporate Lucking pieces into their interior designs.
A special calling
Bob admitted that it was prototypical of the furniture that he feels he was created to create.
