face of resources. Quality communications are essential to the safety of the community for law enforcement as well as fire and rescue services. There are many places in Rappahannock where neither our radio equipment nor cell-phones function. It will only get worse as old equipment deteriorates.
We truly need new and modern equipment for the Sheriff’s Office. Certainly, our public safety radio system would benefit from an assortment of towers on which we could hang “repeater” equipment. However, I’m not convinced this is the best or most effective solution. Higher frequency and more powerful signals may solve many of the problems. We are currently studying this option.
Before we commit to the installation of these unsightly towers on our mountain tops, we should explore the emerging technologies. We should hear from other service providers. We should see a plan.
