Hospice is a comprehensive, medically directed team-oriented care program that seeks to treat and comfort terminally ill patients and their families, at home or in a homelike setting. Hospice care enables those patients to live out their days in peace and with dignity, often in the warmth and comfort of their own homes, surrounded by their loved ones.
It brings hope and consolation to families and friends, too, helping them deal with difficult emotions such as anxiety and grief. By addressing the needs of those facing death, hospice care raises the quality of life not only for the terminally ill patient, but for his or her family and friends as well.
Medicare and Medicaid-certified hospices such as Hospice of the Rapidan provide comprehensive medical care and focus on meeting the practical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. With the cooperation of the patient’s physician, an interdisciplinary team trains, counsels and supports family care-givers.
Hospice of the Rapidan offers continuing contact and bereavement support for family and friends for at least a year following the death of a loved one.
