“It’s the right thing to do . . . it’s the right time to do it . . . we’ve got to remain competitive,” the Sheriff said.
The Sheriff also asked that the Board of Supervisors consider an increase in salary for the Chief Deputy, Chris Williams. Rappahannock’s Chief Deputy is currently compensated in accordance with the Compensation Board’s pay plan, and his compensation amounts to 64 percent of that of the Sheriff. Other jurisdictions pay the Chief Deputy on the basis of a percentage of the Sheriff’s pay.
Fauquier County’s Chief Deputy, for example, is paid on the basis of 94 percent of the Sheriff’s salary; Madison County’s rate is 77 percent. Sheriff Sherertz proposed that Rappahannock pay its Chief Deputy a salary equivalent to
87.8%
