WCDS students excelled in recent national examinations for French, Mythology, Latin and Greek. A perfect score was reported for ninth grader Elizabeth Williams of Winchester in the National Latin Exam, and fourth grader Matthew Wingfield of Flint Hill and seventh grader Danielle Dombrowski of Warrenton achieved perfect scores on the National Mythology Exam for grades three to eight.
Michelle and Nicole Fegeas of Warrenton ranked fifth and eighth, respectively, in their grade level among 92,500 students who were administered the 65th Annual Le Grande Concour, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Michelle and Nicole are sixth grade students of French teacher Diane Lorraine Wood.
Dr. George Snider Jr. and John McMahon, teachers of classical languages at the school, are pleased to report the following awards in national examinations.
The Medusa Mythology Examination for grades 9-12 awarded silver medals to ninth graders Maureen Dale of Luray; Christina Luke of Sperryville and Elizabeth Williams of Winchester. Bronze medals were earned by David Riedel of Washington, Stephen and Thomas Dowell of Castleton, Brittany Hammelman of Warrenton and Alissa Rye of Front Royal.
Corona Laurea Certificates were received by Eileen Cummings of Rixeyville and Arlen Sherwood of Washington.
Corona Oliva Certificates were awarded to Whitney Matthews of Flint Hill, Judson Hurlbert of Linden, Britton Wood of Washington and Dana Ferreira, Mandee Judd, Sheena Rye, Whitney Sealock and Antonia Toth of
