Thanks to the diligent work of so many of you, this year’s Relay for Life was a rousing success. The 47 relay teams raised over $64,000 beating last year’s outstanding benchmark of $61,000.
Ponder, if you will, that this amounts to an average of more than eight dollars from every single man woman and child in the county. If the whole nation gave as much, the American Cancer Society would have some twenty billion dollars to work with this year.
The Relay itself is the culmination, the party at the end of all the fundraising efforts. It is a chance to honor all of those who have struggled, or are struggling with cancer, a chance to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the benefit a success, and an opportunity to remember those who have gone on to their reward before us. It is also a tremendous party and festive good time, a gathering of the community.
Turnout was excellent, despite rather dubious weather this year. This writer counted well over 500 people at the Relay during opening ceremonies. Cheri Woodard, Ester Settle and Ben Atkins
