Kemper. Commander of a brigade of Virginia infantry, Kemper was severely wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg but survived the war to become a post war governor of Virginia. Kemper was born and grew up in Madison County, like his biographer.
Joe Shelton, a Frederick, Md., re-enactor who portrays General Kemper, will provide an "in the flesh" representation of the general at Mr. Woodward's talk, scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. At about 3, author Michael Kilian, Washington correspondent for The Chicago Tribune, will discuss and sign his work of Civil War fiction, "Murder at Manassas." This historical novel is the first in a planned series of mysteries built around Civil War battles and events.
Greg Glassner, editor of the Madison County Eagle, will also be on hand Sunday to discuss and sign his newly published biography, "Extra Billy Smith, Virginia's Govemor/General." The book is a study of the life of William Smith, who served as a Virginia member of Congress,
