spokesman. This was the first night in Kunming.

The next evening, Tuesday, there was another banquet, a wonderful buffet hosted by the BAA and KAA. Many Chinese and their spouses attended, bring the total to 560.

A most memorable event happened on Monday morning. The group went together to the Hump Flying Monument built in 1993. There were several levels of stairs (90 stairs total) and all at the base reached the top. If they could not climb the steps they were either carried or physically assisted.

Representatives of the various World War II groups were asked to write their group’s name on red ribbons, and these were prominently displayed. There was a short ceremony led by Renjie and an American Nurse led the Chinese and Americans in the Lord’s ■ Prayer. Huge stands of flowers were placed at the memorial on which the names were carved on those who went down on the Hump.

Following the memorial ceremony, reunion participants had the opportunity to participate in a Nostalgic Hump Flight over the same terrain that they passed over some 50 years prior.

Several tours were enjoyed and

all meals throughout the mgmamm week were provided.
