thanked everyone who helped make the event a success. A number of survivors stood up to be counted during the opening ceremonies, some speaking briefly to the gathered crowd about their own experience with cancer.
After everyone had their fill of dinner, from the rows of tables laden with every kind of goody, Luminaria were lit in honor of survivors and remembrance of those no longer with us. For the rest of the evening, they glowed in two unbroken rows each more than a hundred yards in length. Then the party began in earnest, and continued through the evening. At ten, hundreds of kids and adults were doing the limbo, dancing the macarena, rollerblading or chatting and munching cotton candy, and the party was still only beginning.
Festivity continued until late at night, with pizza at midnight, and resumed early Saturday morning, with breakfast and closing ceremonies.
Plans are already underway for next year’s Relay which will be held May 18 and 19 and until then the Relay for Life is a relay without a finish line .... until we find a cure for cancer.
