On July 18 there will be a public hearing at which candidates will be questioned by School Board members and the public and, on July 25, the School Board will make a decision on the appointment. Should the school board fail to reach agreement on an appointment by Aug. 6, the Circuit Court will make the decision. At this early date, only former School Board member Ron Makela has expressed an interest to the Rappahannock News in applying for the vacant seat.
Other activities:
• The School Board agreed to provide $12,000 in cafeteria « start-up funds, and to raise school lunches by $.05 in order to, as member Rosa Ann Sharp said, “take the pressure off the cafeteria fund.” The vote on the price increase was 3 to 1, with Aileen Johnson the lone nay vote.
• The Board reached consensus on permitting Dr. Gangel to investigate means of cooling the school cafeteria kitchens and asking the Board of Supervisors to use some of the returned end-of-year funds to purchase appropriate equipment.
• The Board agreed to issue a “Declaration of Emergency Procurement” to procure electrical upgrade work. No bids had been received for the work when advertised in May and June, and the work must be completed in August. Dr. Gangel recommended contracting with Team Electric of Front Royal for $48,997, and the Board unanimously agreed.
