Some lawns are also suffering from diseases. Several fungi affect grass, and they usually cause brown spots to appear in the lawn. Fortunately, most lawn diseases kill only the grass blade, and not the rest of the plant. The roots usually put out new blades, and the lawns recover in a few weeks.
However, for folks with major outdoor social events that require an immaculate lawn, or those people with new lawns, there are several fungicides labeled for turf diseases. While many of the products are packaged primarily for the turf industry, daconil is labeled for most lawn diseases and is readily ,available. Tb confuse matters, some manufacturers call daconil “general purpose or multi-purpose fungicide”. The active ingredient is chlorothalonil.
Oak leaf blister is a common fungal disease on many types of oak. Last month, affected foliage had light green to yellow spots that measured a quarter to a half inch across. The spots have now turned dark brown, and many homeowners are just noticing them. There is no need to worry or treat as the trees will survive and be fine.
