Mellon estate gives to
4-H equine program
A $250,000 gift to the Virginia 4-H Foundation from the Paul Mellon estate will be used to build on the 4-H equine program available to youngsters in the state.
“More then 6,000 youth are in the equine program every year, learning a variety of life skills,” said Martha McCollum, executive director of the foundation.
The equine program provides a broad base of experiences that starts with the technical knowledge of the science of horses, and includes communication and leadership skills. Youth learn to organize facts, develop their ideas and present them in logical ways to judges during competitions.
