Gordon Thompson, FFA student from Huntly, won high honors last week at the State FFA Convention held at VPI. He was second high individual in the Livestock Judging Contest, competing with 192 other boys from all over Virginia. Gordon is now sporting a gold medal for this outstanding achievement in the judging of beef cattle, sheep and swine. Other boys attending the rally and participating in the judging were Newbill Miller and Edwin Scroggins, who made an excellent showing. Besides their judging work these boys attended Leadership training schools and were taken on tours of various agricultural departments of the greater VPI. An auxiliary to the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Company was organized Tuesday, June 27 when a group of local ladies met in the Sperryville auditorium at the request of the men of the fire company. G.M. Black, fire chief, stated that the men would like to have some support, moral and financial, from the ladies. Miss Mary Miller Wood, past president of Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and Miss Ruby Jenkins, secretary, were present to answer the many questions about the formation and organization of an auxiliary.
