ments portion of the meeting, Joy Sloane asked if the board would lobby the Fish and Game Commission to start bear and deer hunting seasons at the same time to help reduce the bear population since incidents of troublesome and aggressive bears have increased significantly in recent months. By starting the seasons coincidentally she said, hunters “can go out and bump off a deer, a bear, or your neighbor-whatever flats your boat.” Mr. Lee reported that Fish and Game did recently have a meeting to discuss the bear problem and, though they cannot extend the bear season this year, they are considering doing so next year.
Amendment
In response to a recent Planning Commission case in which a family apartment could not be located in a topographically suitable location due to the 200 foot restriction pn distance from the main house, the BZA representative to the Planning Commission, Butch Zindel, promoted an amendment that would provide more flexibility. Administrator McCarthy presented a draft resolution amending the Zoning chapter of the County Code by permitting the BZA to work outside of the 200 foot limit when “exceptional topographic conditions exist on the site.” The resolution was passed by the board, and a public hearing will be held on the amendment by the Planning Commission on July 19 and by the Board of Supervisors on Aug. 7.
