On the morning of June 10 I thought I was going to witness my wife’s presentation of a scholarship. At least that provided the incentiw to get me out of our air conditioned home on that warm and muggy morning. But I was soon captivated by the whole ceremonial experience. Tb me it was both moving and inspirational. When the fine RCHS Band struck up that magical old march “Pomp and Circumstance” I was instantly transported in time and space to my own graduation in San Diego, the Point Loma High School class of 1934. Now, you kids may not believe this, but it seemed like only yesterday, well, maybe only a couple of years or so.
I was standing where I could see every face as the seniors straightened up, found the beat, got “in sync” and began their memorable march down the long aisle, toward the rest of their lives. Those wonderful young faces definitely increased my growing optimism about the future of our country.
