Director’s report

Library Director David Shaffer reported that the Rappahannock Farm Bureau had donated $600 to the library, that Mary Florence Cox of the Census Bureau had written to thank the library for providing space for census activities, and that the Friends of the Library had agreed to take over the maintenance of the flower beds.

Director Shaffer informed the Board fjiat the Library of Virginia had provided the Rappahannock County Library w'ith access to a research database service known as SIRS, and that Rappahannock County Library subscribers could access this service from the library or from their homes. The Friday Night series, according to Director Shaffer, has been taken over by RAAC and has been moved to the second Friday of each month. The first event in the new series will be a presentation by Carl Coon, on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m.

Other activities

• President Hartline reported that the Fnends of the Library had offered to purchase two addit tonal computers for Internet access, but that he did not believe that sufficient space or manpower was available at the present time to permit the library to accept this offer.
