Skyline Drive, Lee found something else in her heart: Rappahannock County. With her husband (an occasional newspaper writer whose name coincidentally appears at the top of this article), she now resides in that other Washington, the one with the much closer connection to earth, water, fire, air and definitely space and has begun teaching both her classes and in-depth training here in the county.
Her SynergyDance classes, which can be found starting at 6 p.m. most Wednesdays at the Washington Town Hall, are a kind of barefoot alchemy, a spontaneous and joyous dance of the body, from the mind, through the emotions, to a soundtrack of music from around the world. The classes begin with what she calls "inner exploration", craniosacral-, Polarity- and yoga-based contacts and conscious movement and move on to expressive dance in which participants discover, on a visceral, elemental level, the essence of African, Brazilian, belly dance, Celtic dance and much more. SynergyDance, as Lee says, aims for rediscovery of the dancer within and through that dancer to reconnection with a life of meaning, spirit and self-awareness.
For new students, teachers, dancers, health professionals, therapist and others wanting to learn more about the self-health benefits of SynergyDance and Polarity Therapy, Lee and the Rappahannock Healing Arts Center will be offering a full-day, experiential workshop this Sunday, Oct. 8 at Washington's Old School, on Mt. Salem Avenue just off US 211.
This Introduction to SynergyDance and Polarity Therapy runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a break for lunch (bring your own; also wear comfortable, loose clothing).
