Once upon a time, there
was a young man named George W. Bush, the privileged son of a man of almost the same name, who tried unsuccessfully to make money in oil in the dreary wastes of West Texas, but who at last struck it rich when invited in as an "investor" in a baseball franchise.
As a rich man endowed with a name well known in politics, George W. Bush was elected governor of Texas, in which capacity he paid careful attention to the interests of his corporate sponsors. In due course, these same sponsors, with others who had lots of money and saw things the same way, persuaded him to run for president.
I am reminded of a reading from Chuang Tzu, a Chinese philosopher who flourished 2,500 years ago
