Both school zones are controlled by flashing lights from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the times when students are arriving at or departing from the schools.
Sheriff Larry Sherertz noted that about half of those ticketed were from outside the county, and the fastest offender was clocked going through the school zone at 60 mph.
"The normal speed on U. S. 211 is 55 mph, but there are already VDOT signs reducing the speed limit to 45 mph, due to construction traffic in the area," said Sherertz.
