Twelfth Night to be performed

RAAC and the Curriculum Enrichment Committee are proud to present Shenandoah Shakespeare Express performing Twelfth Night at Rappahannock County High School on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. In Twelfth Night, one of his most popular plays, Shakespeare creates comedy at every elevation from low slapstick to high irony. Writing at the height of his powers, Shakespeare gives us in one play a feast of language and a stage full of memorable characters. Sublime and subversive, Twelfth Night breaks rules and bends gender to show love in all its guises and disguises. Tickets at the door will be $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Homecoming at RCHS

All RCHS Alumni are encouraged to attend the fun events during Homecoming weekend in December. The Homecoming Court will be presented at the home basketball game on Friday, Dec. 1 followed by the Homecoming dance on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The highlight of the dance will be the crowning of the king and queen. Dressy attire will be required for the dance. To order tickets in advance call Janet Long or Susan Fox at RCHS, 9878575.

A call to artists

The Middle Street Gallery, a non-profit artists' cooperative in Washington is planning their 2000 Holidays show focusing on the art of gift giving. The show will run through the month of December. "We are excited about having work by new artists as well as those who have shown with us before," said an organizer. Submitted work will be juried by gallery members.

There will be no fee. A 40 percent (30 percent for members) gallery commission will be deducted from all sales. There is no limit to the number of pieces submitted, but keep in mind that this show focuses on holiday gifts. The Middle Street Gallery reserves the right to reject any work not meeting its standards. Required entry forms are available by calling 675-2355. Leave name, addrdss and a form will be mailed to you. Forms can also be picked up by stopping by the gallery.

Wolfs representative to visit

Mrs. Donna Crowley, a representative of Congressman Frank Wolf, will visit the town of Washington on Thursday, Nov. 16. Mrs. Crowley will be available to talk with constituents who need assistance or have problems of a Federal nature, such as with the Social Security Administration, Department of Labor, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, etc.

Citizens are also welcome to express their opinions on matters of concern, particularly national topics or issues before the United States Congress. Mrs. Crowley will be at the Rappahannock County Extension Office from 2 to 3 p.m. Constituents who want to make direct contact with the Winchester office may call Mrs. Crowley at 540-667-0990 or visit the office at 110 North Cameron Street.

4-H Junior Holiday Camp set

If you are between the ages of 9 and 13 years old and you love to spend the weekend with a bunch of fun people and have an incredibly fun time, then you should attend the first 4-H Junior Holiday Camp! This exciting camping weekend will include holiday decoration-making, a special holiday visitor, gift exchange and surprises, a snowman competition and much, much more.

It will take place Dec. 8-10 at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center near Front Royal. For a registration form, please call or come by the Extension Office. This camp is open to all youth, not just presently enrolled 4-H members, but once you attend the camp, you will want to be in 4-H because you will have so much fun. RCHS Alumni Night planned

The Athletic Department is planning to hold an alumni recognition and dedication on Friday, Dec. 1 at the first boys home basketball game. The ceremony will occur at the end of the JV game just prior to the start of the Varsity game with Luray.

Included in the ceremony will be the retirement of the jersey numbers of several of Rappahannock High School's best basketball players: Harry Jordan (class of ‘76), Mike Leake (class of ’83) and Karen Jordan (class of '86). There will also be a gym dedication ceremony where previous athletic championships will be recognized. For more information contact the Athletic Director at 987-8575.
