An automobile taken from the parking lot at the Laurel Mills Store early on the morning of Nov. 12 was recovered later that day, but the Rappahannock Sheriff s Office is continuing to investigate the apparent vehicle theft.
According to Sheriff Larry Sherertz, the complainant parked his 1989 Mazda 626 4-door sedan by the store at around 8 a.m., and went inside. At about 9:15 a.m., it was brought to his attention that the car was missing.
A witness reported seeing a white male with a moustache getting into the car, and driving off down Route 729. The investigating officer, Dep. C. M. Currence, checked the neighborhood, but could not locate the car.
At 4 p.m., the vehicle was found on Route 619 near Norman's Pond. It was later returned to its owner.
"The case is still under investigation,” said Sherertz. "But it appears that the vehicle was stolen to provide the person who took it with transportation.”
Theft reported
Also under investigation is the apparent theft of two chain saw from a truck that was parked at the Quickie Mart outside of Washington last week.
The complainant called the Sheriff s Office to report the missing items at about 11 p.m. on Nov. 10. Reported stolen were a Stihl chain saw and a Homelite chain saw.
Dep. Anthony Berry is investigating.
Barn burned
The investigation is continuing in the burning of a small bam on the Wakefield School property at Huntly.
The fire was reported around noon on Nov.
