On Tuesday, Nov. 7 the girls' varsity basketball team traveled to Strasburg to face the Lady Rams. The game was a quarter final Bull Run District game that pitted the regular season, third place Strasburg team against the sixth place Lady Panthers.
It was a frustrating night for the Rappahannock squad. Unable to penetrate the tenacious, man-to-man defense of the Strasburg team, the Lady Panthers were soundly beaten 47-23.
Gwen Johnson led the Rappahannock offense with 12 points. It was a disheartening end to a season that consistently saw the Lady Panthers just short at the end of some really well played games.
Coach Dayton said after the game, "It was too bad. It was certainly not our best effort and doesn’t reflect how good the team really can play. I was hopeful, after the way we played league leading George Mason and Strasburg last week in District competition, that we would come out and finally pull off that big upset we've been so close to capturing this year.
