Ford and Dodge trucks have up until now dominated this sector. Despite General Motors' supplying its light truck diesel engines to the military for use in the Humvee, its commercial sales have lagged behind Dodge's 5.9 liter turbo and the 7.3 liter Ford Powerstroke.
"They had a head start but we now have a superior product," Liesener said.
The 6.6 liter Duramax boasts 300 horsepower, and channels 520 footpounds of stump-pulling torque through a heavy duty Allison transmission in either six-speed manual or fivespeed auto versions.
To top that off, "the Duramax is more fuel efficient and quieter than the competition's," Liesener bragged.
