Soul” is similar in some respects to the celebrated “Salons of Paris” in the early 20th century where patrons of the arts and literature, such as Gertrude Stein for example, invited accomplished and aspiring artists and writers into their home to introduce them to society and promote their work. Ki’s “Soup and Soul,” however, was developed by Ki’s artistic director, Julie Portman, as an opportunity to encourage Rappahannock artistic talent and promote dialog with the audience in the spirit of “creating community.” Many of the discussions revolve around “works in progress” as well as finished works - readings from books in draft, illustrations of artistic works, and musical recitals.
