Hearthstone School
The 6th and 7th grade classes just completed a study block with educational materials obtained from Heifer International, a charitable organization which provides animals to poor families in Africa, South America and other countries. During this study block students learned more about Africa, where they sent several flocks of chickens to poor families, which were purchased through Heifer International after their recent fundraiser. They also visited Central Coffee Roasters in Sperryville, Virginia, learning about the coffee industry here and in Africa.
The first grade class continued to work on their academics, including penmanship, reading and introduction^ to mathematics processes. In their nature studies they have learned about caverns, oceans and the seasons. They are also learning the alphabet and the days of the week in sign language, and will continue learning sign language as the year progresses.
Hearthstone School’s Annual Auction will be held on April 8. The silent auction begins at 4 p.m., and the live auction begins at 5 p.m. Hearthstone is interested in obtaining donations from local artisans and craftspersons, as well as artwork, antiques and
