Because I was approved for a low interest SBA loan, the federal government can claim they helped me, even if I decline the loan. They can and they will add that total to the amounts they claim to have authorized in Katrina disaster relief funds.
It looks so good in the press releases, doesn’t it? But, this false ‘looks good so the people feel good” press approach belies the fact that, through bureaucratic slight-of-hand, the agencies involved are able to both “disburse” funds and keep the cash in their pockets.
Much of our Gulf Coast is third world at this point.
My personal feeling is that I would have gotten a better shake from Washington if I had lived in some other country.
High water has passed, but hell hath followed.
