“A lot of people were surprised about this,” said Raney, who does not plan to wrestle in college. Instead, he may study architecture or engineering. “I knew it was possible to win. Last year when I went to states, I got sick. I knew I could win it (this time).”
Raney’s title win, however, did not surprise Herzog.
“If Isaac wanted it, I thought he could get it,” he added.
Allen, who had been a heavy favorite to capture the title at 145 pounds, agreed with Herzog.
“As the match was coming to an end, the crowd was screaming,” Allen said, “I thought that was so cool. It was the perfect ending to Isaac’s season and career. He’s the toughest wrestler. He’s real strong, and he has some different moves that he does that others don’t.”
