Dear Senator Wamer-could not some measure be passed today in Congress to order the cessation of all torture practices by any agency of our government, and the return of all prisoners-victims of rendition-to our own shores, to be kept in facilities open for inspection by the UN and human rights groups. That we are condoning torture from the top-and no one that I know doubts it is from the top-is intolerable. This must stop, and I beg you to stop it.
Please don’t send me one of your boiler plate letters, tossed off by your legislative aids. I know you don’t have time to answer all letters. I would appreciate an answer; but even more I would appreciate actions such as I have outlined.
