No Fast Moves won the second time out over hurdles, in October 2003 at Glen wood Park, and, like his flat career, went on to place fairly well at the mid-level — second to later stakes hurdlers Serrazo and Mauritania. But Morris always had timber in mind for the bay.
“He jumps well,” said the English native. “And stays on well.” Two main ingredients for timber success.
No Fast Moves answered emphatically “yes” when switched to timber last spring, winning his debut at Foxfield in April and following with two thirds, including in the timber stakes at Iroquois in May.
“We hunted him all fall,” as he does most of his timber horses, Morris said. “He’d not had a season’s hunting, and I like to give them that.”
Morris himself often rode the horse last fall and early this winter, hunting regularly with the local Piedmont Foxhounds. “It gives them confidence,” he said of the practice.
