Preliminary Virginia SOL (Standards of Learning) scores showed moderate gains in middle school math but still demonstrated a need for additional improvement.
RCPS Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell shared the preliminary results last Wednesday.
Last year, school officials were stunned as their test scores came back shockingly low, as it was the first year testing grades six and seven for math. Last year only 17 percent of sixth-graders passed the SOL exam. Seventh-graders were even worse last year— six percent passed.
This year, 66 percent of sixth Graders passed their SOL math exams, while only 46 percent of seventh-graders passed.
