In Rappahannock
County, history is so
plentiful that it’s sometimes easy to take it for granted. As county residents go about their daily chores, they pass monuments to men that no person living today ever met They drive routes traveled by horse-drawn carriages hundreds of years ago, and by Native Americans from the Manahoac and Iroqouis tribes before them. In some cases, they live in houses older than the United States itself.
The past week in Rappahannock provided a few good reminders of the county’s rich history as well as stories that may have been forgotten long ago.
