game proved to be one of the most popular and enjoyed of the week’s activities, sure to be repeated next year.
The troop also enjoyed the water carnival, in which the entire youth contingent was “seated” in a canoe without sinking, and Assistant Scoutmaster Matt Bywaters scored second place in the belly flop contest. Having performed impressive dives judged on splash height and breadth, this new Eagle Scout was bested only by another Scoutmaster who, perhaps intentionally, suffered a precontest sunburn. This earned the competing Scoutmaster the many points attributed to belly hue, and thus first place in the contest.
Troop parents visited camp on Friday, bringing with them a delicious covered dish dinner that was enjoyed along with fellowship in the Laurel Ridge campsite. The Scouts added to the many desserts offered, by preparing the Troop 36 Two Tbne Cobbler in a Dutch oven, and served to all, including many staff members knowing the culinary aplomb of Rappahannock cooks.
The troop also enjoyed a Polar Swim held at 0600, a night away from their campsite spent under the stars on outpost and working on a camp service project - repainting the entrance sign to camp, and watching their Scoutmasters beat the undefeated Staff team at kickball, among many other activities.
In a week of “almosts,” the troop scored 499 out of a possible 500 points on camp inspections, won second place in the canoe competition and missed earning the Rock Enon Elite Award only by failing a spot uniform inspection. Assistant Scoutmaster Larry Liles shot a .
very respectable score in the ^j. archery competition, but alas he was among some very talented archers and barely missed placing.
