And, I could always grow good onions. This year, I was lucky to get onions back as big as the sets I planted. Never saw anything like it. And I thought I was going to have enough peqs to feed Flint Hill, when the second planting came up looking pretty. Well, the pods got about an inch and a half long, and some filled up and the rest got hard. We had two little bowls of new peas, and that was the crop.
Things are looking a little better in the bean department. We got the first two cannings done, and we have put up 34 quarts. And the tomatoes are starting to come in. I don’t know how we made it before we got a pressure canner. That thing is a godsend. We also made a few half-pints of strawberry preserves and blackberry jam.
We have some com that’s about as high as an elephant’s eye, but it doesn’t have a lot of ears on it. I’m hoping we don’t
