Andrea’s Pic enjoyed a ground-saving trip under Dane Kobiskie while 3-5 favorite Changeisgonnacome dueled , head-to-head with longshot Dude One Step!
Dixie One Step took a slight lead through an opening quarter in 22.41 as Changeisgonnacome pressed her two-wide and Andrea’s Pic raced 2 1/2 lengths back in fourth along the rail. Dude One Step and Changeisgonnacome stayed glued together around the turn and turned for home a head apart.
Changeisgonnacome began to tire in the upper stretch, and Dude One Step looked primed to score a big upset. Andrea’s Pic was still 1 Yi lengths back at the three-sixteenths pole but a hole opened in mid-stretch and the 4-year-old Housebuster filly spurted through to take command inside the eighth pole and draw off.
Andrea’s Pic covered the 5 Vi furlongs on turf in 1:03.19 to score her first stakes victory. Virginia native Rodney Jenkins trains the winner.
