Last year many other school divisions across the state were surprised at the abnormally low scores, and questioned the new SOL math tests for grades six and seven. State Virginia State Superintendent Billy Cannaday, stood behind the tests.
The State Department of Education, stated last year that the new tests were focused on preparing sixth and seventh graders for upper level math.
In spite of the low scores, the elementary school was accredited due to a rolling three-year average of the scores.
