FLOURISHING FLOWERS: Don & Valerie Jones follow their passion with their gorgeous flower beds

One thing led to another and today they have about 180 varieties. Don is in the midst of trying to catalog them all now. He takes photographs of each one as it blooms and is creating a database with all the information. This is his third attempt to catalog them all. One year a computer crash thwarted his efforts and another year he got sidelined by an auto accident. So far, this year’s cataloging is proceeding without incident!

I love the names of some of these flowers! One of the new ones that they purchased this year is called Stage Coach Inn. I especially loved one called Always Afternoon. Valerie has her favorites but Don just shakes his head when asked to name his top picks. I have to admit, with all this variety it’d be a tough choice!

The festival of flowers starts around the third week of June. There are early bloomers, late bloomers and even rebloomers! And the flowers will continue for several months. And, while the peak is now, there will be plenty to see for weeks yet.
