soaring back to the ground at 120 miles per hour, I barely notice how fast we are traveling as I take in the breathtak-’ ing views.
For 55 seconds, I’m flying.
At 6,000 feet the parachute is ejected.
At first, a sharp drop is experienced as the chute is let out. This is quickly replaced by a tranquil feeling of floating. At this point I find words again and I'm able to chat with Brent.
“I’ve been working as a skydive partner for about 10 years," he says. "I have dived just over 3,000 times."
And I thought I had accomplished something with my one jump.
As the ground nears, I remember my training from earlier in the day. Most injuries occur while attempting to land. I’m careful to listen closely to Brent’s instruction.
We land safely, sliding easily across the ground with nothing more than a few grass stains to show from our adventure.
I've made it.
And now I know. Skydiving truly is one of life's great experiences.
