Tlie troop had just finished celebrating the Fourth of July in Sperryville when the appointed day to leave for Summer Camp was upon them.
Arrival at camp Sunday afternoon was made much easier this year, as the troop’s gear was delivered directly to the Laurel Ridge site using their new trailer, donated by Flint Hill United Methodist Church and Settle’s Garage. The troop then topped off a hot day by completing swim checks in spring-fed Miller Lake.
After a tour of the dining hall and posing for a group photo, the troop settled into their campsite, assigning camp duties, making final merit badge selections and scheduling their activities for the coming week.
The troop’s Senior Patrol Leader, Buster Brown, had decided to participate in the Zeb High Adventure program and hence would be off-premises during daytime hours caving, rock climbing and canyoneering. Thus much of the leadership required in camp fell on the shoulders of Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Joey Heinzelman.
Joey shared his responsibilities with others and received much assistance from Troop Scribe Bret Heddleston and the rest of his resident troop leadership.
