While day lilies have a reputation for being easy to care for, there is still plenty of work involved. First of all, I’m amazed that each and every plant is so carefully labeled. The plants are dead headed as each bloom finishes. There is, of course, weeding to be done. But the real scourge around these parts is deer! The Jones’ seem to have finally conquered their four-legged foes with a fence taller than most basketball players!
Once the work with the actual flowers is done there are shows to attend, growers to visit, catalogues and magazines on day lilies to peruse. It’s easy to see how this could become all-consuming!
The new bed is starting to really come along. But the Jones’ say that’s the last one. Hmmmm. There’s an awful lot of space left in this yard and since it’s already fenced in and protected from the deer...I mused that they might as well keep going. Don was clearly tempted but Valerie laughed and shook her head at the amount of work they already had on their hands.
As a selfish spectator I’m more than happy to see them add many more beds! With the Jones' as neighbors, summers in Amissviile get more beautiful every year!
