Dali play, Patrick Dale coached the summer basketball camp of 15 students. Patrick once again demonstrated first-hand his knowledge of dribbling and shooting along with teaching the proper mechanics of defensive positioning and offensive moves. Aided by Andrew Smith, a rising lOth-grader, the varsity duo was able to provide one-on-one instruction to each of the students.
Peter McEvoy, the Randolph Macon College men’s head soccer coach, brought his more than 20 years of camp experience to Wakefield Country Day School by hosting a half- day camp over a one-week period that featured 16 students from WCDS and Rappahannock County schools. Students divided into groups and received instruction on many areas of skill improvement. Competition was created on individual skill levels and all participants had the opportunity to show their talents. Each student received a T-shirt and ball as a reward for hard work during the week.
Camps continued with Drama Camp for seven students ranging in age from rising kindergarten through rising fourth grade. The children studied Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and, after a week of preparation, performed an adaptation of file play for an enthusiastic audience of parents, family and friends.
The young players memorized many lines, including Shakespearian songs ("Come unto these yellow sands, and then take hands!"). They scripted, blocked and choreographed seven comedic scenes. The youngsters designed and implemented special effects, including an amazing contraption which caused a banquet to vanish, and created other revolving set pieces that transformed a ship into a shipwreck.
